Biography

Although he has performed previously on tenor and alto, Charles Davis is best-known for his great baritone performing, both being a soloist as well as for his dependable function in sax sections. In early stages, he gigged with Sunlight Ra (on / off from 1954 in to the 1980s), Sibling Jack port McDuff, Ben Webster, Billie Vacation, and Dinah Washington (1957-1958). Davis obtained some interest when he was with Kenny Dorham’s music group (1959-1962). He also used Illinois Jacquet, Lionel Hampton, the Jazz Composers’ Orchestra (1966-1976), Louis Hayes’ Sextet (1972-1974), Clark Terry’s big music group, as well as the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra. Within the 1980s, he was with Dameronia (1981-1984), Philly Joe Jones, Barry Harris, and Abdullah Ibrahim. Charles Davis provides led periods for Strata-East, Western world 54, Nilva, Crimson, and L&R.
