Chargers

LA R&B group the Chargers formed in 1958. Relating to Marv Goldberg’s profile in the July 1987 problem of Goldmine, tenor business lead Benny Louis Easley, second tenor Jimmy Norman, tenor Dunbar John White colored, his baritone sibling Junior, and bass Mitchell Alexander had been all close friends of R&B story Jesse Belvin, and founded the group after harmonizing at his L.A. house. Belvin also rehearsed using the group, brought these to his label RCA, and added uncredited vocals with their debut solitary “Aged MacDonald.” Issued in the summertime of 1958, it demonstrated a major strike in the East Coastline marketplace and squeaked in to the nationwide Scorching 100. The Chargers resurfaced through the holidays with “The Counterfeiter,” but inner squabbles prompted the group to divide in early 1959. Norman afterwards enjoyed an effective career being a songwriter, teaming with Jerry Ragovoy (beneath the alias “Norman Meade”) to pencil the Irma Thomas traditional “Time Is certainly on My Aspect,” later included in the Rolling Rocks; he also have scored a solo strike using the deep spirit cult basic “I Don’t Like You FORGET ABOUT (I Don’t VALUE You).”
