Challenger

French hard rock-band Challenger shaped in 1980 using a line-up comprising Denis Drieu (vocals), Remy Devillard (electric guitar), Serge Hendrix (electric guitar; formerly an associate of French rock-band the Hurricanes), Pierrot Roussel (bass) and Jean-Pierre Pollet (drums). The next year they agreed upon to RCA Information and documented First Circular. A formidable record that combined components of Molly Hatchet and ZZ Best -produced ‘southern boogie’, it brought them instant acclaim in mainland Western european rock circles. Nevertheless, its failing to attract mass media interest in either the united kingdom or USA disappointed RCA, who didn’t renew their agreement, and Challenger faded from watch.
