Cato’s Vagabonds

Created in 1921 in Des Moines, Iowa, USA, this dance strap was being among the most well-known playing the Midwest circuit throughout that decade and another. Managed by Cato Mann and aimed by Lester Rhode, the Vagabonds produced their name through summer time months at Interlaken Recreation area in Fairmont, Minnesota. Originally a concise six piece orchestra, from the mid-20s that they had extended to feature 10 music artists and a vocalist. Their 1st radio appearance arrived after a display in the Kelpine Ballroom in 1926, a broadcast which guaranteed their enduring regional popularity when sent on train station WOAW. Although they hardly ever performed outside Iowa, intermittent engagements in Georgia, Florida and New York’s Roseland Ballroom occurred. This resulted in shows in the Syracuse Resort and Marigold Cafe in Rochester, NY, through the early 30s. Nevertheless, when Cato Mann retired from music in 1936 to go into the areas of business, the dance music group to which he previously provided his name dissolved.
