Cardiff, Wales local Cate Le Bon matched her slightly spooky, fragile tone of voice with dark lyrics — she confessed to getting death-fixated — and a sparse, spindly acoustic guitar audio. In 2007, she opened up for Super Furry Pets’ Gruff Rhys, with whom she sometimes collaborated, throughout a tour from the U.K. That same yr, she self-released her first solitary, “NO-ONE CAN Pull Me Down”/”Disappear,” and documented an album, Family pet Deaths, that was shelved.
