Cartoon Partner combines three completely different musicians to make a sound that’s all around the map. From hip-hop addresses of country strikes like “Close friends in Low Locations” towards the self-effacing stylings of “Two Immigrants along with a Hick,” the tunes on the debut recording, Nipples, maximize jaded listeners get sucked in. Holly Wright, from Gary, IN, provides a harder, hip-hop sensibility in addition to mid-western pop audio. The punky Tommi Tillman, from Sandford, NC, is usually hard-edged and intense, which belies his southern origins.
