Carolyn Crawford

US-born soul singer Carolyn Crawford received a 1963 talent competition staged by radio station WCHB in Detroit, the prize being truly a contract using the town’s biggest label, Motown Information. Her debut solitary, ‘Neglect About Me’, demonstrated unsuccessful, but she experienced a US strike in 1964 with Smokey Robinson’s ‘My Smile IS A Frown (Changed UGLY)’. Her third launch, ‘When Somebody’s Great To You’, flopped in america, but became a cult record among English soul followers. Crawford remaining Motown shortly later on, working like a support vocalist and program singer until becoming a member of the Detroit spirit group Section 8 in 1975.
