Carol Leigh

A wonderful and sassy singer, Carol Leigh has helped keep vintage jazz, Dixieland, and golf swing alive through her spirited shows. Leigh was raised hearing jazz from her two old brothers’ record selections and on the air. When she was 16, she noticed the rings of Turk Murphy and Bob Scobey personally, which made a large impression. She experienced regular office careers for quite some time and wedded trombonist Wayne Leigh in 1953. By 1958 when her spouse started teaching at SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA State University, she started to sing expertly. Leigh began with pianist-trombonist Alan Hall’s music group, had an interval when she sang six evenings a week in a Roaring ’20s SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA nightclub known as the Hotsy Totsy, and experienced possibilities to sing with Wingy Manone, Slim Gaillard, Wellman Braud, and Pops Foster. Leigh worked well at a multitude of musical careers through the entire ’60s, sometimes performing contemporary materials. Carol Leigh divorced Wayne Leigh in 1973, marrying saxophonist Russ Whitman four years later on. In 1973 she sat along with the initial Salty Canines Jazz Music group and, by the next year, was operating at many celebrations using the group within the East and Midwest. As the musicians reside in several places, they don’t work together everything frequently, but Leigh is normally section of their reunions and their recordings. Furthermore to her use the initial Salty Canines, Leigh sang with Turk Murphy (1979-1981), Crazy Expenses Davison, Dick Wellstood, Wayne Dapogny, Neville Dickie, the Hall Brothers Jazz Music group, the Climax Jazz Music group in Canada, the Dark Eagles, and Japan’s New Orleans Rascals. She’s recorded mainly for Stomp Off and GHB, and on a duet arranged with pianist Wayne Dapogny, with UNLESS YOU, I Know WHO’LL, being among her finest classes.
