Carmen Maria Vega

In the forefront of France’s Gypsy jazz revival, Carmen Maria Vega are an eclectic quintet based around their eponymous lead singer. Created in Guatemala but elevated in Lyon, Vega originally researched theatre before switching her focus on music. After she teamed up with songwriter Utmost Lavegie in 2005, the set became ever-present within the French live circuit, carrying out over 500 gigs, including displays at La Cigale and L’Alhambra. Following a recruitment of guitarist Sebastien Collinet and drummer Toma Milteau, they released their critically acclaimed self-titled debut in ’09 2009, which continued to become nominated for the renowned Prix Constantin. After a short hiatus where Vega produced her performing debut in Le Jour de la Grenouille, the music group regrouped, with the brand new addition of bassist Oliver Smith, for the 2012 sophomore recording Du Chaos Naissent les Etoiles.
