Carmen Costa

Effective interpreter of carnival marchinhas as well as other genres, Carmen Costa also participated in a number of films and in the Bossa Nova Festival in Carnegie Hall in 1962. Around 1935 she shifted to Rio de Janeiro where she began to participate in newbie shows in a number of r / c. In 1938 she shaped a duo using the composer Henricão, documenting the strikes “Onde Está o Dinheiro” (Henricão), “Dance Mais Um Bocado” (Henricão/Príncipe Pretinho), and “Samba, Meu Nego” (Buci Moreira/Miguel Baútherefore) with him. Her initial solo documenting (in 1942) was the traditional “Está Chegando a Hora” (edition by Henricão and Rubens Campos for “Cielito Lindo”). In 1945, she shifted to the U.S. and performed 2 yrs later on the Triboro Movie theater in NY. Costa also performed in Venezuela and Colombia. Time for Brazil, she got among her biggest strikes in 1952, the march “Cachaça Não É Água” (Mirabeau/Héber Lobato/Lúcio de Castro). Various other hits of this period had been “European union Sou a Outra,” “Quase,” “Obsessão,” and “Jarro da Saudade.” In 1964 she toured the U.S. with Sivuca. She continuing to execute intensively in a number of styles, including sacred music (with preparations by Paulo Moura) and samba. Costa also starred within the present Se Você Jurar with Ismael Silva in 1973.
