Once referred to as “the P.T. Barnum of Nation Music,” Carlton Haney performed an important function in the popularization of bluegrass and nation through the 1950s, ’60s, and ’70s. Elevated in the NEW YORK Piedmont, he generally prevented music until 1953, when he started dating Costs Monroe’s 16 year-old little girl. Monroe provided him employment being a booker and publicist, perhaps to monitor Haney while he courted his kid, and Haney spent 2 yrs on the highway with Costs Monroe & the Blue Lawn Boys before time for NEW YORK in Sept 1955. After reserving local bands for many months, he transferred north to Richmond, Virginia, to greatly help revive the Aged Dominion Barn Dance. A every week nation music present and nationwide radio broadcast, the Aged Dominion Barn Dance have been the Virginian exact carbon copy of the Grand Ole Opry for a long time, although changing tendencies in the music sector had started to influence its popularity. Overtaking the reins from previous emcee Sunlight Sue, Haney transferred the show in the Lyric Movie theater towards the Bellevue Movie theater, a former film palace in Richmond’s northside, and renamed it “The New Dominion Barn Dance.” From 1957 to its shutting in 1964, the display included performances from nation superstars like Johnny Money and Ernest Tubb. Haney continuing working being a booker for various other artists, as well, popularizing the idea of nation music “bundle displays” that highlighted several popular performers. Although he also released the national publication Muleskinner News, handled Reno & Smiley for ten years, and wrote tunes for several performers, Haney’s biggest state to popularity was inventing the bluegrass event industry. After keeping the genre’s 1st multi-day event at a equine plantation in Fincastle, Virginia, he started promoting additional festivals as much north as Rhode Isle. His work gained him an area in the Bluegrass Hall of Popularity in 1998. Haney passed away 13 years afterwards, having experienced a heart stroke on March 3, 2011, and succumbing to its problems afterwards that month.
