The Portuguese guitar is a 12-string instrument with twice courses (string pairs) and a little body, similar in tone towards the mandolin or Greek bouzouki. Its penetrating sound is certainly championed by Carlos Paredes, a delicate, even timid performer who amounts custom and spontaneous invention. His first strategy was likened towards the freshness of Ornette Coleman by bassist Charlie Haden, who’s himself a ethnic hero in Portugal.
