Carlos Garnett

A rigorous tenor soloist, Carlos Garnett appeared to generally disappear from jazz following the later ’70s, but after a 10 season sabbatical, he re-emerged performing much better than ever. He was raised in Panama, began playing tenor in 1957, and in early stages performed calypso and Latin music. In 1962, Garnett shifted to NY, working with rock and roll groups and attempting a little, but listening carefully to the free of charge jazz saxophonists. He obtained some acknowledgement for his use Freddie Hubbard (1968-1969), Artwork Blakey’s Jazz Messengers (1969-1970), and Charles Mingus, and experienced a significant stint with Kilometers Davis in 1972. Garnett also caused Jack port McDuff, Andrew Hill, Gary Bartz, and Norman Connors through the period and documented five albums of his personal for Muse during 1974-1977 that ranged from exploratory music to efforts at commercialism. Carlos Garnett was musically inactive during a lot of the 1980s, but began a return in 1991.
