Carissa’s Wierd

Biography

Carissa’s Wierd formed in 1995 when Tucson natives Matt Brooke and Jenn Ghetto moved to Seattle. The pair’s hushed, plaintive vocals and complex instrumentation made the feeling on city’s music picture right away, plus they recruited pianist Jeff Hellis — not forgetting a revolving lineup of drummers and violinists — to circular out their sparse indie rock and roll sound. Other users included future Music group of Horses frontman Ben Bridwell, Sarah Regular, and Sera Cahoun. Embracing a glaring misspelling rather than signing up to convention, the bandmembers blazed their very own trail in early stages, cutting their tooth on Seattle’s golf club circuit. In 1999, the group unleashed Ugly But Honest on Bridwell’s personal label, Brown Information. The musicians continuing making a hype round the Pacific Northwest, heightening their regional profile using the launch of 2001’s YOU OUGHT TO BE at Home Right here and 2002’s Tunes About Leaving. Documenting with Chris Walla at Seattle’s Hall of Justice Studio room, the group progressively appeared to be a story in the producing, however they disbanded in past due 2003 immediately after a cross-country tour. Following a demise, Ghetto centered on a single project known as S. In the mean time, Brooke and Bridwell announced programs to create a band known as November 16th; while this outfit by no means materialized, the duo do find success using the indie rock and roll take action Band of Horses. Brooke break up from your group in 2006 and continued to create Grand Archives, who consequently became labelmates with Music group of Horses if they authorized to Sub Pop. In the mean time, Sad Robots Information issued many posthumous produces of Carissa’s Wierd materials, including 2004’s I Before E, and the neighborhood label Hardly Artwork issued an intensive compilation this year 2010.
