Carbon Based Lifeforms

Swedish ambient duo Carbon Based Lifeforms was founded in Gothenburg in 1996 by Daniel Ringström & Johannes Hedberg, initially as an offshoot of Notch, their group with Mikael Lindqvist. 1998 recording THE ROAD (in the beginning released like a Notch documenting) mixed atmospheric synthesizers, downtempo beats, acidity basslines from a Roland TB-303, didgeridoo, and field recordings. The recording was released beneath the CBL moniker as The Phat #000001/The Phat #000002 on-line in 1999. The duo authorized with French ambient/trance label Ultimae Information in 2002, and released appropriate debut Hydroponic Backyard in 2003. The album’s downtempo acidity ambient style became a cult preferred, and follow-up Globe of Sleepers found its way to 2006. In November of 2009, CBL performed two sold-out concerts at IMAX dome/planetarium Cosmonova inside Stockholm’s Museum of Organic Background. After scrapping classes for any third album in ’09 2009, the much less acid-tinged Interloper finally made an appearance this year 2010, of which stage Ringström was referred to as Daniel Segerstad. CBL turned to beatless ambient music in 2011 using the launch of fourth recording Twentythree, aswell as the hour-long drone piece VLA. The duo’s initial soundtrack, for suspense-thriller Refuge, premiered by Leftfield Information in 2013. In 2015, the duo agreed upon with Bloodstream Music and started remastering a few of their old albums for discharge on vinyl.
