Caravana Cubana

The thought of the supergroup Caravana Cubana was initially hatched throughout a memorial service in April 1998 for Emilio Vandenedes, a renowned public radio broadcaster within the LA and Miami areas who was simply a significant supporter of Cuban music. The shows on the memorial had been so impressive, that the participants, in addition to George Hernández, a film manufacturer and co-founder from the LA International Latino Film Festival, started patterning a documenting project following the display, which would limelight many of the music artists from Vandenedes’ memorial (specifically those who’ve liked long careers, however under no circumstances quite received their rightful reputation). The task sparked many reunions between music artists who hadn’t used one another in years — Al McKibbon (a bassist who performed Afro-Cuban jazz alongside Dizzy Gillespie and Chano Pozo in the past due ’40s) reunited with Francisco Aguabella for the very first time in 36 years, L.A.-structured José Caridad Perico Hernández joined up with his longtime friend Jesús Chucho Valdés, and in addition along with his fellow sonero (singer) from ’50s Havana, Pío Leiva, as the brother from the past due Cuban music legend Arsenio Rodríguez, Raúl Travieso Rodríguez, joined up with a lot of his outdated friends in his initial recording in a number of decades. Documented in LA during the summertime of 1998, the record, titled NIGHT TIME Sessions, wasn’t released until January of 2000 (on Rhino Information) — however the became really worth the wait around, as the recording was nominated for a set of Grammy Awards.
