Cailin Rua

Cailin Rua means “redheaded lady” in Gaelic, and two from the group’s three users, Maire McCurley and Dawn McConnell, match that description. Their third member, Steven Grahn, may be the exclusion. Maire McCurley is usually a third-generation Irish vocalist. Furthermore to developing up in a house filled up with music, she was influenced by Maire Brennan and Karen Mattheson. McCurley is usually a classically qualified soprano and a percussionist. As she was raised close to the central California coastline, she was attracted to tunes of the ocean and of unconventional ladies — strong-willed and smart, like her personal mom, and her grandmother Molly McCurley, to whom she dedicates her music. Dawn McConnell started playing violin as a kid because she wished to sign up for the jam periods that were kept every week at her house. When she was 15, McConnell’s family members transferred to Ireland, where she was inspired by Irish fiddlers Kevin Burke and Martin Hayes.
