Butter 08

The East Town all-star unit Butter 08 comprised Cibo Matto’s Miho Hatori and Yuka Honda, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion’s Russell Simins, Skeleton Key’s Rick Lee and graphic designer Mike Mills (never to be confused with the R.E.M. bassist of the same name). Created within the wake of the drunken night spent generating the Cibo Matto solitary “Understand Your Poultry,” Butter 08’s demonstration was exceeded by Simins to Beastie Boy Mike D, who instantly authorized the supergroup to his Grand Royal label; their debut LP, Butter, adopted in 1996.
