Composer Bun-Ching Lam was created in 1954 in Macao. First educated being a pianist, she received a bachelor’s level in performance in the Chinese language School in Hong Kong. Upon finding a scholarship in the School of California, NORTH PARK, in 1976, Lam transferred to the U.S. and started composing beneath the tutelage of Robert Erickson, Pauline Oliveros, and Roger Reynolds. She received a Ph.D. in structure in 1981. From after that until 1986, she taught on the Cornish University from the Arts in Seattle. Lam today lives in NY, where she works together with such Chinese language music artists as pipa virtuoso and composer Wu Man, tenor Chen Shi-Zheng, and can be active in Chinese language Shadow Theater.
