Brimstone

Ladbroke Grove, London-based Michael Campbell and Ruler Sounds shaped Grove Music, that was in charge of promoting the professions of Aswad, Sons Of Jah and Brimstone. Brimstone was created in 1977 by Sam Jones (b. Samson Jones, 1945, Dominican Republic; tempo acoustic guitar) and Gus Phillips (b. 1957, Sierra Leone; vocals). The line-up also included Peter Harris (b. 1955, Jamaica, Western Indies; lead acoustic guitar), Leo Charles (b. 1959, Dominican Republic; drums), John Thomas (b. 1948, Trinidad, Western Indies; percussion), Wayne Griffiths (b. 1951, Trinidad, Western Indies; bass) and Vivienne Clark (b. 1958, Britain; vocals). The line-up extended to add Tony ‘Gad’ Robinson, who later on became a member of Aswad, Angela Francis and Elegance Reid. They toured within the ‘Grove bundle’ alongside Ruler Seems and Sons Of Jah, and following a success of the debut solitary, ‘Last Judgement’, in 1978, the music group became the headline take action. Brimstone had developed a unique catalogue, which afterwards grew to add ‘Malcolm X’, ‘Compliment Jah’ and ‘Solomon’s Time’. In 1979, they implemented their debut strike with ‘Discharge Me’, which supplied the music group with a high 20 hit within the reggae graph. In keeping with several UK-based reggae rings, the group discovered greater achievement in Europe, getting particularly well-known in Belgium. In 1982, the music group released their long-awaited debut, Jah Discover And Understand, which highlighted a edition of Bob Marley’s ‘Craven Choke Pup’ alongside seven first tracks. The record was recorded with the modified line-up of founder people Gus Phillips, Leo Charles with Vivienne Clark, alongside Stephen Rene, Tony Clarke, George Joseph and Lynford Odum.
