Brian Smith

b. 3 January 1939, Taranaki, New Zealand. Smith is really a self-taught saxophonist. He performed in rock and roll, dance and jazz rings in the home and in Australia before arriving at Britain in 1964, when he initial used Alexis Korner’s Blues Included (1964-65). In the past due 60s he caused the big rings of Tubby Hayes and Maynard Ferguson, with whom he remained until 1974. He also caused the rings of Graham Collier, Gordon Beck, Mike Westbrook, Mike Gibbs, Keith Tippett and John Stevens. In 1969 he was a creator person in the effective jazz rock-band Nucleus with whom he remained until he came back house to New Zealand in 1982. Since that time he has used his very own quartet and earned the Australian Jazz Record Of THE ENTIRE YEAR prize with Southern Excursion in 1984. He also documented with the brand new Zealand jazz fusion device Space Case. Smith is usually a player having a formidable technique and the capability to match any music from rock and roll and blues through to free of charge improvisation.
