Brendan Power

A master from the chromatic harmonica and blues harp, New Zealand-born and London-based Brendan Power has proven equally adept at performing pop, classical, rock and roll, and traditional Irish music. Furthermore to playing on albums by such Celtic rings as Altan and Arcadia and Irish vocalists, including Paul Brady, Arty McGlynn, Nollaig Casey, and Mary Dark, Power offers toured Australia with Donal Lunny’s Guinness Tour and made an appearance on albums by Sting, Vehicle Morrison, Shirley Bassey, and traditional guitarist John Williams. His debut single recording, New Irish Harmonica, was selected by Folk Origins among the best albums of 1994, while, his 1997 documenting, Brian Power Takes on the Music From Riverdance, presented his preparations of tunes through the strike musical revue. While London-based journal Time Out acknowledged him with having a “magic harmonica,” the Irish Instances praised him for his “impressive specialized skill, deep understanding of the device and a creative method of the music.” Surviving in London since 1992, Power proceeds to create his presence experienced in his homeland. In 1993, he earned the All-Ireland competition within the miscellaneous device category. Power made an appearance for the BBC/RTE tv series on Irish music A River of Audio and Celtic music displays Surt in Ireland and Taksi in Scotland. His tracks offered the soundtrack for the Irish film Gulitrip, and Hollywood films including Pressing Tin and Shanghai Noon. Power in addition has performed using the orchestra for Riverdance.
