Boonie Richman

b. Abraham Samuel Richards, 2 Apr 1921, Brockton, Massachusetts, USA. In the first and middle-40s Richman performed tenor saxophone in rings led by Jerry Wald, Muggsy Spanier and Tommy Dorsey. This last engagement lasted five years and was accompanied by an extended spell of studio room work, where he also performed and documented with Benny Goodman, Neal Hefti, Ruby Braff, the Sauter-Finegan Orchestra, Henry ‘Crimson’ Allen and Cootie Williams. From the 60s his studio room work substantially outweighed his jazz looks, a pattern that didn’t alter over being successful decades. As the grade of his musical market leaders indicates, Richman is usually a sound participant with considerable flexibility and an excellent sense of golf swing.
