The Chicago-born Light made a name for himself in LA from the later 1940s, using trombonist Earle Spencer, trumpeter Harry Adam, saxophonist Charlie Barnett, and bassist Howard Rumsey, amongst others. White used tenor saxophonist Vido Musso in 1951-2; also alto saxophonist Artwork Pepper and trumpeter Chet Baker in 1953, and clarinetist Pal DeFranco in 1954. Light was a fixture for the Western world Coast jazz picture in the 1950s and was still mixed up in late 1990s, frequently performing on the Lighthouse, the Hermosa Seaside club made well-known by Rumsey’s different All-Star aggregations. In 1999 he participated within a concert tribute towards the Lighthouse celebrating the 50th wedding anniversary of Rumsey’s initial gig on the club.
