Bobby Guyer

An excellent trumpeter who hardly recorded, Bobby Guyer spent the majority of his existence living and gigging within the Midwest. After playing in a variety of local swing rings, Guyer (whose primary idol was Bunny Berigan) spent an interval with Bobby Byrne’s Orchestra (1939-43), was with Benny Goodman during a lot of 1943 (which inturn went undocumented because of the Music artists Union recording hit) and experienced stints with Woody Herman (1944), Tommy Dorsey and Hal McIntyre (with whom he do record). After dealing with the Dorsey Brothers Music group in the first 1950’s, Guyer came back to Cincinnati, performing studio work and frequently gigging in North Kentucky. Bobby Guyer passed away in 1988 of malignancy but luckily led an archive date (his only 1 as a innovator) in 1985 for Jazzology that discovers him in good type, playing dixieland and golf swing standards.
