They aren’t heard about very much today on reissues, partly because a lot of their documented legacy schedules from before Globe Battle II, and didn’t possess many components of bluegrass (even though Joe Shelton performed the mandolin). Bob Attlesey (b. July 4, 1909) and Joe Attlesey (b. January 27, 1911) had been delivered in Reilly Springs, in Hopkins State, TX. Through the 1920s, these were listening to performers like Peg Moreland and Jimmie Rodgers on Victor, and had been producing music themselves, Bob performing and playing electric guitar and fiddle, and Joe on vocals, electric guitar, and mandolin. They performed locally and shifted to Longview, TX, and to Tyler, TX, where they found a short-term partner, Leon Chappelear. The trio documented for the very first time in Chicago in 1933, for Bluebird, functioning beneath the name the Lone Celebrity Cowboys. In addition they followed Jimmie Davis on his edges for RCA-Victor (Davis later on went for governor of Louisiana, using the brothers campaigning for him in 1944), and relocated their foundation of procedures to New Orleans, where they broadcast frequently on WWL. In 1935, they started documenting for Decca Information, the upstart organization that was revolutionizing the music business using its low prices and intense marketing — it had been Dave Kapp of Decca who recommended the Attlesey brothers required a more industrial name, that they reached back again to their mother’s family members name and became the Shelton Brothers, also changing their titles legally. It had been through the period that ensued that this brothers cut a few of their most remarkable tunes, including originals like “BECAUSE” (later on included in Elvis Presley, among numerous others), aswell as tunes they’d learned hearing Peg Moreland and Lew Childre. Their audio was nearer to mainstream nation, and had components that expected honky tonk in audio and soul. Curley Fox, with whom they’d worked well on-stage in Atlanta, arrived to the group in past due 1935, adding another fiddle player with their lineup. Through the middle-’30s, they remaining New Orleans, splitting their time taken between r / c in Shreveport and Dallas-Fort Well worth, even while they began documenting greatly for Decca, eventually trimming over 150 edges. The Shelton Brothers had been among the better offering nation acts and sibling acts of the time, and demand didn’t slacken until after Globe War II. Actually then, these were still a large radio act for some of another 10 years. By the end from the ’30s, the Shelton Brothers music group grew like a third sibling, Merle (b. 1917), joined up with, along with Gene Sullivan. They continued to be a popular take action on radio for greater than a 10 years — the group lineup in 1946 included Bob, Joe, and Merle, Preacher Harkness, Joe Molina, and Bernie Harkness. In 1947, these were trimming music for Syd Nathan’s Ruler Information label, but by that point, their fortunes and target audience had started to fade. The group halted recording by the end from the ’40s, although Joe and Bob both continued to be busy carrying out live and on radio out of Shreveport, on KWKH, house from the Louisiana Hayride. Bob later on specialized in humor, while Joe continuing like a musician on the air and various information, and Merle performed on radio in Dallas and slice a few edges for Lin Information. Joe passed on on Dec 26, 1980, Bob appears to have offered in 1983, and Merle may be deceased aswell. They were mainly ignored through the LP period, aside from a 1976 MCA record that acquired one aspect of their Decca materials (using the various other side offering the Carlisle Brothers). Two CDs, from Aged Homestead (The Shelton Brothers: Bob and Joe) in 1993, and Cowgirl/Youngster of Germany (BECAUSE) released the same season, are difficult to find. These are overdue for the Bear Family Compact disc reissue.
