Bob Roberts

b. Robert A. Roberts, 27 Apr 1879, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, d. 21 January 1930, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. In his youngsters Roberts worked well in his father’s traveling show. He previously a nice tenor tone of voice and began documenting from around 1902. For another five years Roberts was extremely prolific. His repertoire included minstrel tunes and the presently well-known ragtime, which resulted in his becoming nicknamed Ragtime Bob Roberts. Among his recordings are “I’m AROUND THE Water Wagon Right now”, from your Broadway musical ANY OFFICE Young man (1903), “Relationship Is usually Sublime”, “Hurrah For Baffin’s Bay”, from your Wizard Of Oz (1903), “I MIGHT Become Crazy, But I Ain’t No Fool”, “Everybody Functions But Dad”, “THE SAME KIND OF Masses”, “Congo Like Track”, “Goodbye, Eliza Jane”, “You’re Usually Behind AS AN Aged Cow’s Tail”, “GO BACK HOME!”, “Aged VACATION CABIN In The Street”, “The Siren”, “They’re All Great American Brands’, ‘I’m Simply Barely Living That’s All”, “Moving Time”, “I’m Pleased”, “WITH THE Sycamore Tree” and “Back again, Back, BACK AGAIN TO Baltimore”. Especially well-known had been “The Woodchuck Tune” and “He Strolled Best In, Turned Around And Strolled Right Out Once again”, both which he documented more often than once. Much less energetic from 1908, Roberts got successful information with “The 20th Hundred years Rag”, “Pray For The Lighting To VENTURE OUT” and specifically “Woodman, Woodman, Extra That Tree” and “Ragtime Cowboy Joe”. Furthermore to his single recordings, Roberts was also teamed with others for comic tracks and vaudeville routines. He and Fred Duprez, in the guise of Blitz And Blatz, documented “At THE OCEAN Shoreline” and “ON THE PASTIME”; with Albert Campbell he documented “Clarence, The Copper”, “Leander And Lulu” and “An Interrupted Courtship FOR THE Un”; and with Billy Murray he produced “Won’t You Fondle Me?” and “Farewell, Mister Abner Hemingway”. In keeping with a great many other leading saving artists from the period, Roberts had not been signed specifically to any business. In his research of the period, Tim Gracyk mentions that Roberts documented for Zon-o-phone, a Victor Information subsidiary, around the short-lived nine-inch discs. His documenting career was efficiently over by the finish from the 10s and in the 20s Roberts could primarily be noticed on radio in his city, including showing up on WCKY, and he is believed to possess maintained a poolroom. (NB: A United kingdom bargeman called Bob Roberts documented folk tracks and ocean shanties and will be noticed on compilation albums of materials generally through the 50s. There’s also various other performers with this name in various eras and styles.)
