Blue Bob

The music project of director David Lynch and sound engineer John Neff, Blue Bob mixes naïve, ’50s-inspired music with industrial rhythms, noise-scapes, and the entire strangeness that Lynch provides to all or any of his projects. Lynch offers collaborated with additional musicians, especially composer Angelo Badalamenti and vocalist Julee Luxury cruise. His collaboration with Neff started in the past due ’90s, when Lynch employed the former program guitarist (who was simply also the studio room engineer for Walter Becker) to greatly help type Asymmetrical Studios, his house studio in LA. Along with documenting music there, Lynch and Neff also perform ADR (extra dialogue documenting) and sound files for Lynch’s movies and other tasks. In Blue Bob, Lynch and Neff function separately on sound files and certain bits of music, after that collaborate on distorting them with acoustic guitar results pedals, burning up to 15 results at the same time. The duo started focus on Blue Bob tracks in the springtime of 1998 and continuing to focus on them for just two years, like the period Lynch was directing Mulholland Drive; many of Blue Bob’s tracks managed to get onto the soundtrack of this film, along with the group’s self-titled recording, that was released in 2003.
