Biography
Dark 47 (a name deriving from the entire year 1847, the blackest 12 months from the Irish potato famine) is a fresh York-based band comprised of Irish expatriates and led by songwriter/playwright Larry Kirwan. Furthermore to Kirwan (vocals, acoustic guitar), the music group includes Chris Byrne (uilleann pipes, tin whistle, vocals), Fred Parcells (trombone, tin whistle, vocals), Jeff Blythe (saxophone), Thomas Hamlin (percussion), and David Conrad (bass). Dark 47 plays an assortment of traditional Celtic folk music, rock and roll & move, rap, and reggae, all topped from the idiosyncratic songwriting and persona of Kirwan. While playing a residency in the Irish pub Paddy Reilly’s in Manhattan, the group released its debut recording, Black 47, alone BLK label in 1992, and was authorized to SBK/EMI, which released a five-song EP, also known as Dark 47, in November 1992, along with a critically acclaimed major-label debut recording, Fire of Independence, in March 1993. Dark 47 toured thoroughly in 1993 and 1994 and released its second recording, Home from the Daring, in Oct 1994. Like Open fire of Freedom, House of the Daring received good evaluations nonetheless it was overlooked available on the market. For 1996’s Green Suede Sneakers, Black 47 relocated to Mercury, the recording made no effect, either critically or commercially. Problems in the Property adopted in early 2000. Byrne remaining the group following the album’s launch to focus on his use the Celtic folk group Seanchai. Dark 47 continuing on without Byrne, liberating a live arranged, titled BURNING, in 2001 accompanied by New York City in 2004. In 2005, the group released Elvis Murphy’s Green Suede Sneakers a friend piece to bandleader Larry Kirwin’s memoir Green Suede Sneakers : An Irish-American Odyssey. The politically billed Iraq made an appearance in 2008, accompanied by Bankers and Gangsters in early 2010.
