Biting Tongues

This Manchester, England-based unit was formed by Graham Massey and Howard Walmsley in 1980, ostensibly to supply soundtracks for the latter’s live film screenings. With Massey on acoustic guitar and Walmsley on saxophone, they added regional article writer Ken Hollings as vocalist, Colin Seddon on bass and Eddie Sherwood on drums. Fusing jazz, punk and dance music affects, Biting Tongues continued release a four albums on the 80s, the final of which noticed them proceed to important Manchester independent Manufacturing plant Records. By this time around Hollings and Sherwood experienced both departed, the second option going to sign up for Simply Crimson. Their replacements had been Basil Clarke (vocals) and Phil Kirby (drums). The Manufacturing plant album, associated with singles ‘Problems Hands’ and ‘Compressor’, acted like a soundtrack to some other Walmsley film (furthermore, there is a full-scale video recording in 1988, Wall structure Of Browse). However, because the 80s advanced, Clarke and Kirby drifted off in to the ranks from the progressively successful Yargo, departing the music group’s founding duo to come back to focus on video/soundtracks. A 5th recording was aborted when their 5th record business, Cut Deep, collapsed.
