Billy Williams

b. 28 Dec 1910, Waco, Tx, USA, d. 17 Oct 1972. Williams shaped the very effective gospel group the Charioteers in the first 30s while learning theology at Wilberforce University, Ohio. The group got regular radio places in Cincinnati and NY and caused Bing Crosby for the western coastline. In the 40s that they had seven strikes of their personal and in addition charted with Frank Sinatra. In 1949 Williams remaining and shaped the Billy Williams Quartet with Eugene Dixon (bass), Claude Riddick (baritone) and John Ball (tenor). The group had been often noticed on tv including over 160 looks on Sid Caesar’s Your Display Of Displays. They documented with little effect for Mercury Information and MGM Information before signing up for Coral Information in 1954 and after several unsuccessful addresses of R&B strikes the group gathered nine US graph entries. The largest of the was a revival of Fatty acids Waller’s ‘I’m Gonna Sit down DOWN And Best Myself A Notice’: a US Best 3 and UK Best 30 strike in 1957. The jazzy R&B musician sadly dropped his voice, due to diabetes, in the first 60s. He transferred to Chicago where he became a cultural worker, employed on the model cities task and assisting alcoholics until his loss of life in 1972.
