In the time immediately prior to the contemporary resurgence from the bagpipes, Billy Pigg was perhaps one of the most influential players from the instrument. Taught to try out Northumbrian pipes by associates from the Clough Family members, Pigg supplied an electric outlet for the original music from the borderlands between Britain and Scotland. Although he documented prolifically, a lot of his recordings had been reserved for privately possessed tapes. An autobiography, The Boundary Minstrel, predicated on research with a.D. Schofield and edited by Julia Sky, was released in 1997 with the Northumbrian Pipers Culture.
