Biography

Billy Paul earned most his hits within the ’70s simply because an R&B vocalist, although he’d been recording because the ’50s, when he debuted in Jubilee. Blessed in Philadelphia in 1935, Paul was highlighted on radio broadcasts at age 11 and acquired a thorough jazz history. (He caused Dinah Washington, Mls Davis, and Roberta Flack, in addition to Charlie Parker, before developing a trio and saving for Jubilee.) His primary 1959 documenting of “Ebony Girl” for New Dawn was afterwards re-recorded for Neptune because the name of his 1970 LP. He agreed upon the next calendar year with Philadelphia International and have scored his biggest strike in 1972 with “Me and Mrs. Jones,” topping both R&B and pop graphs. Paul had an added TOP R&B one, “Thanks a lot for Saving MY ENTIRE LIFE,” in 1974. He continued to be on Philadelphia International before middle-’80s. Paul documented one LP for Total Knowledge in 1985, Recently, and another for Ichiban before announcing his pension in 1989 in London. He continuing to do periodic club dates, nevertheless, both in the us and abroad. He passed away in Apr 2016 at age 80.
