Although much less well-known simply because his one-time bandmates Truck Morrison and Alan Henderson, Belfast-born guitarist/singer Billy Harrison deserves recognition for founding the 1960s band Them. Among the hardest rocking & most exclusive R&B-based sets of their period — also amid competition like the Rolling Rocks and the Very Issues — they generated a string of well-deserved strikes before Morrison’s departure to get a solo profession in 1966. Harrison initial place the group jointly beneath the name the Bettors in 1962, and it had been Morrison’s signing up for — and the actual fact that another, better-known United kingdom music group had been using the Bettors name — that precipitated the name-change to Them the next season. Although he founded the group, Harrison evidently played hardly any on their real information, deferring to program music artists. Them had an extremely liquid lineup throughout their background, and record brands were reticent to invest much studio period working with music artists in whom that they had small confidence, specifically in situations where in fact the business lead singer was the primary appeal — by most accounts, Morrison and bassist Alan Henderson had been the only users of the music group heard around the group’s information (while some accounts credit Harrison using the business lead guitar component on “Baby DO NOT Proceed”, their discovery single in Britain). Harrison was with Them for the long term, amid those myriad staff adjustments. Henderson grabbed in the name in the wake of Morrison’s departure, but Harrison evidently did take part in some latter-day attempts at keeping the group alive. In enough time since, he offers remained energetic on the Belfast music picture, performing the same sort of hard R&B that brought him into music expertly in the beginning of the ’60s. He offers cut one single album, and continues to be area of the Belfast Blues Music group, and was among the important contributors towards the 1997 recording Belfast Defeat Maritime Blues.
