Like fellow Backyard Staters Thursday night, Saves your day, Armor for Rest, and My Chemical substance Romance, Shirt City’s Billionaire Guys Club gets the post-punk, emo-verging-on-screamo sound on lock, and they have got the réamounté to prove it. Shaped in 2002 by guitarist/vocalist Reef, guitarist/vocalist Tag Sunderlin, drummer Matt Lewis, and bassist Leigh Nelson, the shaggy-haired, tight-harmonizing Guys got their name from an obscure 1980s B-movie starring Judd Nelson. Before that they had an opportunity to rethink that, their music caught on. Using the discharge of debut EP Profession Possibilities in 2003, the music group got the decision to seem — double — on Last Contact With Carson Daly; in addition, it earned the differentiation to be the first music group ever to become featured on leading page from the teen-magnet site myspace.com. Increasing the out-of-the-gate fanfare, an unapologetically catchy one, “NOT Wanna,” was found by VH1. For all your accolades, though, BBC — whose audio owes much debts to Weezer, blink-182, Jimmy Eat Globe, and the Substitutes — has continued to be largely an area act, opening over the New York/New Shirt area for famous brands Fountains of Wayne, Wedding cake, the Dandy Warhols, and Superdrag. East Coastline fans shouldn’t depend on keeping the Guys to themselves forever, though: in January 2006, the all-20-something quartet released its initial full-length record, the super-caffeinated, rocked-up What Occurred YESTERDAY EVENING on Quit YOUR ENTIRE DAY Work Music. Sal Villanueva (Thursday night, Taking Back Weekend) produced.
