Biography
Tenor saxophonist Costs McHenry is becoming well known in NY for his function both being a head and sideman. Blessed in Blue Hill, Me personally in 1972, McHenry got into Michigan’s Interlochen Arts Academy in 1986 and attended New Britain Conservatory in 1990, learning with George Garzone, Jimmy Giuffre, and John McNeil. He relocated to NY in nov 1992 and became mixed up in jazz picture. During section of 1996 he resided in Barcelona, collaborating on the live record with pianist Ben Waltzer entitled Jazz Is normally Where YOU DISCOVER It. McHenry’s debut being a head was 1997’s Rest End. The follow-up, entitled Graphic, premiered in 1999 and was among New York Situations critic Ben Ratliff’s top “choice picks” for this year. Since that time McHenry has documented and performed with Ethan Iverson, Rebecca Martin, Ben Waltzer, John Stech, Reid Anderson, Ben Monder, the Chris Lightcap Quartet, as well as the Guillermo Klein Big Music group. His very own group, the Costs McHenry Quartet, features Ben Monder on electric guitar, Reid Anderson on bass, and Gerald Cleaver on drums.
