Blessed in Snow Hill, AL, on July 23, 1928, bassist Costs Lee was a prolific sideman and program participant for numerous jazz, folk, and pop recordings, initial in Chicago through the 1940s and ’50s, after that in NY from 1959. The founder of the brand new York Bass Violin Choir, he caused head Ted Harris through the ’80s over the Harris & Dyer label. The daddy of film movie director Spike Lee, the elder Lee provides composed primary music for several his son’s films, notably Do the proper Thing, that he won the very best Music prize on the 1989 LA Film Critics Association Honours.
