Bill Johnson

b. Williams Manuel Johnson, 10 August 1872 or 1874, New Orleans, Louisiana, or Talladega, Alabama, USA, d. 3 Dec 1972, New Braunfels, Tx, USA. Johnson was among the initial bass players in jazz. He 1st used the harmonica and the guitar. An associate of all best known rings, Johnson remaining New Orleans at the start from the twentieth hundred years. He also helped discovered the initial Creole Music group with which he toured California. A probably apocryphal tale relates how Johnson, who originally utilized a bowed bass, broke his bow throughout a gig and experienced to keep by plucking the strings and therefore established the custom of playing jazz bass pizzicato which has continued since. From 1918-24 he caused Ruler Oliver and laid the building blocks of the design which Pops Foster did therefore much to build up.
