Bill Gaither

Blues guitarist Expenses Gaither cut more than a hundred edges for Decca and OKeh between 1931 and 1941. Gaither was near to the blues pianist Leroy Carr, and pursuing Carr’s loss of life in 1935, he documented as Leroy’s Friend for a while. An excellent guitarist who possessed a warm, expressive tone of voice, Gaither was also sometimes a gifted and inventive lyricist. He was frequently partnered with pianist George “Honey” Hill, as well as the duo patterned themselves after Carr and his guitarist, Scrapper Blackwell. Among Gaither’s many edges are three tributes to Carr (“Existence of Leroy Carr,” “Leroy Carr’s Blues,” as well as the wonderful “Following the Sun’s BEEN DOWN”). Given birth to on Apr 21, 1910, in Belmont, KY (some resources have the delivery 12 months as 1905), Gaither is usually buried in New Crown Cemetery, Indianapolis, although the precise day of his loss of life isn’t known.
