Biography

With a rich academic and performing background in jazz and classical music, composer/multi-instrumentalist Bill Douglas brings a skilled, creative method of his playing and compositions. Douglas started his musical trip being a teenage rock and roll and jazz performer in Canada, executing Elvis addresses in his initial band. He continued to get formal musical levels from the College or university of Toronto and Yale College or university, where he researched with avant-garde composer Mel Powell. While at Yale, he also fulfilled clarinetist Richard Stoltzman; collectively, they created a touring and documenting cooperation, with Douglas associated Stoltzman on piano and bassoon in traditional and jazz designs. Along with using jazz performers like Eddie Gomez and Gary Burton, Douglas also performed bassoon using the Toronto Symphony. Douglas explored his teaching and compositional abilities throughout a seven-year stay in the California Academy of Arts, and resolved in Boulder, CO, where he shows music background and technique classes in the Naropa Institute. Douglas also created “Rock and roll Etudes” — a tempo study system for music classes — utilized by music educators worldwide. Through the summers, Douglas targets his compositions, which mix his diverse encounters and interests right into a cohesive and lyrical entire. Albums like Jewel Lake, Cantilena, Deep Peacefulness, Globe Prayer, and 2000’s Eternity’s Sunrise reveal his multifaceted capabilities.
