Bill Direen

A longstanding cult number of the brand new Zealand music picture, singer/songwriter Costs Direen was created in Christchurch in 1957; getting his first electric guitar at age 15, he produced his first open public appearances at region open-mike folk showcases. After falling out of university, Direen recognized a factory work; inspired with the music from the Velvet Underground as well as the 13th Flooring Elevators, he quickly bought a power acoustic guitar, and with bassist Stephen Cogle, drummer Peter Stephenson, and violinist Theresa McGuire shaped the Vacuum. In 1980, Cogle and Stapleton exited to create the Pin Group; the Vacuum briefly transformed their name to Kaza Portico, however in early 1981, Direen stop to become listed on the short-lived Six Difficult Things. Direen quickly recorded a single EP, Large Thirties Piano, and in past due 1982 also released a Soluble Seafood effort entitled Dance of Loss of life.
