Bill Callahan

Biography

After almost twenty years of utilizing the alias Smog for his music, Expenses Callahan turned to his given name for his releases after 2005’s A River Ain’t A great deal to Like. The 2007 EP Gemstone Dancer and full-length Woke on the Whaleheart both combined the personal, reflective, mainly acoustic sound of later on Smog albums like Supper along with a River with gospel, spirit, and pop components, and boasted preparations by previous Royal Trux mastermind Neil Hagerty. For 2009’s Occasionally I Want We Had been an Eagle, Callahan came back to the even more intimate acoustic-based audio of latter-era Smog albums, offering string and brass preparations by Brian Beattie. The live recording Rough Travel to get a Rare Thing found its way to March 2010, and in July Callahan released his 79-web page “epistolary novelette” Words to Emma Bowlcut, made up of 62 words from a nameless protagonist to a female he noticed at a celebration. Callahan kicked off 2011 with Apocalypse, a far more uptempo assortment of seven nation- and blues-inspired rock and roll music that recalled a few of his edgier use Smog. A softer providing, Wish River, was released in nov 2013. Another year Enjoy God surfaced, remixing the eight monitors of Wish River in even more haunted and digital styles.
