Big Star’s Third

An random tribute act featuring renowned power pop and indie rock and roll performers paying homage to 1 of the main element functions in the pre-new influx pop cannon, Big Star’s Third was organized to pay out homage to Alex Chilton and his group Big Star’s last album. In 2005, Chris Stamey, a significant Alex Chilton acolyte and creator from the dB’s, and Frank Heath, who owns the observed Chapel Hill, NEW YORK location the Cat’s Cradle, staged an advantage display in 2005 where Stamey plus some of a common local music artists performed the tracks from Elliott Smith’s recording Either/Or. But with arranger Carl Marsh rewriting his unique orchestrations for the function, and a music group offering Stamey, Mike Mills of R.E.M., Mitch Easter of Let’s Dynamic, and unique Big Celebrity drummer Jody Stephens becoming a member of the cream from the Chapel Hill music community, the display, held in the Cat’s Cradle, became a press event. THE 3RD concert was such successful that Stamey and Heath had been asked to stage related Big Celebrity tribute shows in the united states, as well as with the U.K. and European countries. In Apr 2016, a efficiency from the Big Star’s Third display was presented in the Alex Theatre in Glendale, California; guests as of this display included Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow from the Posies, Jeff Tweedy and Pat Sansone of Wilco, Robyn Hitchcock, Ira Kaplan of Yo La Tengo, Dan Wilson of Semisonic, and Benmont Tench of Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers.
