Big Lucky Carter

Biography

b. Levester Carter, 1920, Weir, Mississippi, USA, d. 24 Dec 2002, Memphis, Tennessee. Although he previously performed spirituals on his grandmother’s piano, Carter didn’t take up your guitar until he was portion within the Pacific during Globe Battle II. When he came back to Mississippi, he had taken instruction from regional musicians Adam Henry and Big Boy Anderson. In 1949, he became a member of a music group that also highlighted pianist Ford Nelson. In Memphis the next year he became a member of his cousin, saxophonist Ed Kirby (who proved helpful as Prince Gabe), in his music group the Rhythmaires. He continued to be with the music group (its name having been transformed to the Millionaires) for eight years. In January 1957 they documented a program for Sun Information under his cousin’s true name, that some titles had been issued through the 70s. Carter led his very own music group through the 60s but continuing to record with Kirby for Savoy, Westside and Bandstand USA. In 1969 he produced two singles for Willie Mitchell’s M.O.C. label, among which, ‘Goofer Dirt’, is undoubtedly his principal accomplishment, and which he was supported by associates of Al Green’s music group, including guitarist Mabon ‘Teenie’ Hodges. These and two additional titles were released on River City Blues 2 yrs afterwards. Although he continuing to create and perform, nothing at all was noticed from Carter until his appearance on the 1993 Burnley Blues Celebration. His debut record finally appeared over the Blueside label in 1999.
