Bhimsen Joshi


Born in Feb 1922 in Gadag within the present-day Indian condition of Karnataka, Bhimsen Joshi is among the truly matchless man vocalists of Hindustani music: his shows are always a way to obtain pleasure. From early in his existence he was driven by music, a travel which led him to set off quite youthful. After many journeys he resolved down learning with Sawai Gandharva from the Kirana gharana and something of the most important college students of Abdul Karim Khan. Bhimsen Joshi includes a wealthy and resonant tone of voice which, while absolutely classical in shade, includes a warm, lived-in quality.
