Bessemer Sunset Four

The Bessemer Sunset 4 (these were sometimes billed as the Bessemer Quartet) was formed in 1925 from the ashes from the unrecorded Rolling Mill 4. Structured out of Jefferson State, AL, the group contains lead vocalist Dave Dark brown, tenor Sam Riley, baritone Clean Ivey, and bass vocalist Pat Gaines. Their great four-part harmonies had been a textbook exemplory case of the Jubilee-style of gospel performing widespread through the 1940s, when it provided way towards the harder gospel varieties of groups just like the Spirit Stirrers. The Bessemer Sunset Four documented 27 songs (three which were never released) for Vocalion Information between 1928 and 1930.
