An all-time great spirit, R&B, funk, and pop drummer, Bernard Purdie’s impeccable period and mastery of backbeats and grooves are celebrated. He shifted to NY from Maryland in 1960, and documented with James Dark brown, King Curtis, and many more. He was CTI’s home drummer in the past due ’60s and early ’70s, and caused Grover Washington, Jr. and George Benson among many others. Purdie toured with Curtis and Aretha Franklin in 1970, and was Franklin’s music movie director until 1975. During his studio room days in the first ’70s, Purdie documented with Louis Armstrong and Gato Barbieri alongside numerous rock and roll, pop, and spirit sessions. He documented with Dizzy Gillespie in 1980 on the Montreux Jazz Celebration and toured with him in 1983. Purdie documented with Hank Crawford through the early ’80s, and it has continued working gradually in to the ’90s. He produced a firestorm of response in 1993 when he billed it had been his uncredited drumming instead of Ringo Starr’s on some Beatles paths. Purdie claimed evidence was forthcoming, but non-e was shown. He produced a rare time as a head for Traveling Dutchman in 1972, Pretty Purdie, which has lengthy since vanished. But Purdie could be noticed on countless discs by Dark brown, Franklin, Curtis, Gillespie, and Crawford among numerous others.
