Benjamin Schmid

Benjamin Schmid is a favorite violinist known for his chameleonic abilities in executing both classical and jazz compositions. He offers credited two main influences in the introduction of his profession, one each in both of these disparate worlds of music: violinists Yehudi Menuhin and Stéphane Grappelli. Schmid’s capability to perform both traditional and jazz music successfully is even more amazing taking into consideration his wide repertory in each genre: in traditional music he performs functions by J.S. Bach, Vivaldi, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Paganini, Ysaÿe, Berg, Britten, and John Cage; on the other hand his repertory contains music by Cole Porter, Gershwin, Kreisler, and many more, including modern composer Christian Muthspiel, whose concerto for electrical violin Schmid provides recorded. Schmid continues to be quite mixed up in recording studio over time, making many CDs for a number of brands, including Oehms, Arte Nova, MD&G, EuroArts, and Basta Information. Benjamin Schmid was created in Vienna, Austria, in 1968. He started playing the violin in his early years as a child with eight years became drawn to the jazz design of Grappelli. Schmid’s initial serious studies had been in Salzburg and Vienna, after that later on the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. Schmid earned numerous small tournaments before capturing initial award in the 1992 Carl Flesch International Competition in London. At that time he had fulfilled and begun executing with both Grappelli and Menuhin.
