Biography
Finland’s Beherit (the Syriac name for Satan, incidentally) was spawned in 1989 by spectacularly called vocalist/guitarist Nuclear Holocausto Vengeance. Alongside bassist Dark Jesus and drummer Sodomatic Slaughter, his communicate purpose was to execute probably the most primitive, savage, hell-obsessed dark metallic imaginable (no Viking styles found right here). Clearly inspired with the blunt, unrefined sonic criteria noticed on Bathory’s early initiatives, Beherit’s heavily exchanged demo tapes supplied the bulk materials because of their 1991 debut, The Oath of Dark Blood. Probably Finland’s initial full-fledged dark metal record, it preceded their right now far more renowned peers Impaled Nazarene by way of a year. Like various other lo-fi dark metal clothes, Beherit’s industrial intractability, terrifying visuals, and outrageous live shows (like the periodic goat on-stage) begat a little but extremely devoted cult pursuing, which readily purchased subsequent releases such as for example Werewolf, Semen and Bloodstream, Messe des Morts, and Sketching Down the Moon. 1994’s enigmatic H418ov21.C inaugurated a wholly different stage for the music group (today whittled right down to a lone Holocausto), seen as a the ambient synth collages of darkwave and resulting in 1996’s similar Electric powered Doom Synthesis. Beherit silently vanished shortly thereafter, but 1999’s Beast of Beherit compilation was ultimately released to commemorate the band’s essential contributions towards the dark metal field.
