Having a career built on decades of pushing — and sometimes breaking — the boundaries of punk, electronic, and industrial music, Beate Bartel is among Germany’s most dynamic and long lasting experimental artists. Created in Western Berlin, Bartel worked well as a audio engineer for the city’s general public broadcasting assistance, Sender Freies Berlin, before developing the all-female punk music group Mania D in 1979 with Karin Luner, Eva Gössling, Bettina Köster, and Gudrun Gut.
